Hope, on Every Table
Bringing Hope to New Haven in 2026
We’re kicking off our inaugural year in New Haven with a simple goal: bringing to our area a growing Thanksgiving tradition of neighbor helping neighbor. By bringing families a box of food that they can prepare, enjoy, and share together in their own home, we help bring them hope and dignity.
Thanskgiving Heroes New Haven is a fully autonomous 501(c)3. We are the seventh local affiliate of the Thanksgiving Heroes Foundation, joining Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Cleveland, Stark County Ohio, and Orange County California.
This year, our goal is to provide meals to 50 families currently experiencing food insecurity. It doesn’t matter if it’s because of job loss, illness, loss of income due to a death in the family, or something else. With your support, we can bridge the gap for families in need.
Together, we’re working to ensuring no family in need is out of reach. Please donate today and be a Thanskgiving Hero! Thank you!
Building a Tradition of Neighbor helping Neighbor
New Haven’s Thanksgiving Heroes is all about neighbors helping neighbors.
In this our inaugural year, folks from Southern Connecticut are pitching in to make sure families who could use a hand get a delicious Thanksgiving meal.
Families in a pinch get nominated by schools, clubs, churches, and other civic organizations who see and understand food insecurity on a year-round basis.
Then, a crew of awesome volunteers steps up to pack the boxes and deliver the goods on the Saturday before Thanksgiving (“The Big Day”).
It’s not just about the food; it’s about the love and connections we make along the way. Please join us and help us build this tradition of families helping families, neighbor helping neighbor.
The Problem
Hunger Hits Home
From 2020 to 2024, the food-insecure population in Connecticut grew by 196,696 people, a 54% increase. That put Connecticut’s food insecurity rate at 15.3% — 560,760 people, or 1 in 7. For children it was even worse – 18.8%, more than 137,000 kids, or 1 in 5.
These numbers aren’t just statistics—they represent families, friends, coworkers, and neighbors in our community who are currently experiencing hunger.
At Thanksgiving Heroes New Haven, we find these figures both alarming and unacceptable. That’s why this year, we are working tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of those facing hunger in our local communities—one meal at a time.
Our Mission
What We Do About It
Thanksgiving Heroes brings communities together to ensure families facing food insecurity have access to nourishing meals, meaningful support, and the joy of gathering around a full table.
By focusing on the Thanksgiving holiday to start, we can bring greater awareness to the general food insecurity issues our communities face.
Our signature day of service, The Big Day, is the Saturday before Thanksgiving each year. That’s when we pack the boxes and deliver them with love to gratefulf nominated families.
Our mission is to create moments of hope, connection, and dignity by making sure that families across New Haven county know that whenever the need arises, that their community cares.
You can make a difference
making our goal a reality
Please join us during this inagural year of Thanksgiving Heroes New Haven to start building a tradition of making a real impact in tackling food insecurity in our area.
We may be building on a national movement, but we can’t do this alone. Locally, we are an all-volunteer run organization. The more help we have, the more people we can feed.
Whether you volunteer, donate, or nominate a family in need, you can become one of the heroes our community needs this holiday season.
Thank you!
Countdown to THE BIG DAY!
